NEW DELHI: The number of deaths from swine flu this year has risen to 596, with more than 100 casualties reported across the country in three days from February 12, prompting the Centre to order additional drug stocks and diagnostic kits.
While the total number of deaths from swine flu had 485 to February 12, the latest official data released today said more than 100 people have died from H1N1 within three days until February 15, taking the toll 596. in total, 8423 people have contracted swine flu this year in the country.

The above are the most affected states with their respective rights up to 176, 144, 76 and 58, official figures said.
Rajasthan:
On February 15 alone, Rajasthan has reported 12 deaths. With the number of swine flu cases continues to increase in Rajasthan, a team of three members of the intensive care unit of Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi Jaipur is to help the swine flu.

Delhi and Tamil Nadu have reported a high incidence of cases of swine flu deaths in the two states is relatively low due to high level of awareness and a more developed health sector.
For example, while nearly 1,500 cases were detected in Delhi, there have been only seven deaths. Comparitively, Rajasthan saw 176 deaths in 2928 cases detected.
Punjab:
Punjab has the highest ratio of deaths to people affected by the disease. Of the 68 people who contracted the virus in the state this year, 25 have died from swine flu.
Doctors say that high mortality rates because of those affected to come for treatment at an advanced stage of the disease.
Health department officials said they have sent central teams to the most affected states like Rajasthan and Gujarat, and developed appropriate guidelines.
"The government has already placed an order for stock enhancement of diagnostic kits - for testing for the H1N1 virus - to provide the laboratory network as part of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program.
"To improve the level of preparedness, additional stocks of drugs, oseltamivir and 10 000 N-95 masks are also being acquired," said an official statement.
